Last Updated: October 2026 — Patch 26.19, Season 3
If your memory of League Honor includes checkpoints, yearly resets, capsules, and tokens, wipe it. The LoL Honor system was rebuilt in Patch 25.04 and now judges your recent behavior on a five-level scale.
That changes the whole question. You are not filling a hidden seasonal bar anymore. You are building—or rebuilding—a current record of positive communication, coordination, and sportsmanship.
⚡ Quick answer: Honor 3 is neutral. Honor 4 and 5 are positive standings with more recognition and rewards. Honor 1 and 2 mean an active penalty. There are no checkpoints or seasonal resets, and Riot does not publish a guaranteed number of games needed to reach Honor 4 or 5.

How the LoL Honor System Works in 2026
Riot's Patch 25.04 Honor revamp{:target="_blank"} replaced the old time-served ladder with a dynamic evaluation of recent behavior. Riot explicitly removed both Honor checkpoints and seasonal resets.
The current system looks for three broad things:
- Communication: friendly, constructive use of chat.
- Coordination: useful pings, emotes, and team-focused calls.
- Commendation: giving and receiving post-game Honor votes.
Playing more games without a punishment is not the same as being positively recognized. Honor 3 means you are not currently disruptive. Honor 4 and 5 are reserved for players whose recent games show consistent, visible teamwork.
The live patch is 26.19 as of this update. Riot's Patch 26.19 notes{:target="_blank"} also confirm that expanded Team Voice was postponed with no new target patch, so pings, short chat calls, and premade voice remain the practical communication tools right now.
LoL Honor Levels 1 Through 5
The five levels are easier to understand as three states: penalized, neutral, and positive.
| Level | Standing | Main effect |
|---|---|---|
| Honor 1 | Active penalty | No Honor or seasonal rewards; the strongest chat, ping, and emote limits |
| Honor 2 | Active penalty/recovery | No Honor or seasonal rewards; reduced communication access and no recurring Honor BXP drops |
| Honor 3 | Neutral | Normal queue and chat access; occasional small Battle Pass XP drops |
| Honor 4 | Positive | More frequent Honor BXP drops and a loading-screen Honor emblem |
| Honor 5 | Highest positive standing | Most recognition, Honor Recall, Honor skins, and team-visible ally-targeted pings |
The current Riot Honor guide{:target="_blank"} is the authority for your exact privileges. Your client profile is the authority for your own level, active restriction, and recovery-game requirement.

Honor 1 and 2 are penalty states
These are not ordinary rungs below neutral. Riot uses them when an account has an active behavior penalty.
Honor 1 removes access to All Chat, champion-select chat, and end-of-game chat. It also applies the tightest rate limits: two pings and two emotes within five seconds before a temporary lockout.
Honor 2 restores champion-select and end-of-game chat, but All Chat stays unavailable. The rate limit rises to four pings while emotes remain capped at two within five seconds.
Honor 3 is the neutral baseline
Honor 3 gives full standard chat access, a six-ping and three-emote limit within five seconds, and occasional small Battle Pass XP drops. New and normal-standing accounts sit here.
Neutral does not mean “almost Honor 4.” The system is dynamic, and Riot keeps its formula private. There is no public progress bar or fixed game count for the positive tiers.
Honor 4 and 5 require positive play
Honor 4 adds a visible loading-screen emblem, more frequent Honor BXP drops, and higher ping and emote limits. Honor 5 adds the Honor emblem beside your name in chat, the Honor Recall decal, the full Honor skin unlock, and ally-targeted pings that the entire team can see.
High Honor can slide when recent positive participation falls off. Riot says it warns you before a demotion, and inactivity by itself is not the same thing as negative behavior.
If solo queue keeps turning your comms into an argument, change the environment. A consistent League of Legends teammate on Tapin gives you someone who already knows the plan, keeps calls short, and can debrief a bad game without making the next one worse.
How Honor Votes and Progression Work
After a matchmade game, you can honor up to four other players. Allies and opponents are both eligible, and each person can receive only one of your votes.
Your available votes live in a small bank capped at four. The current rules award:
- one vote for finishing a full matchmade game that is not remade;
- one extra vote when you received at least one Honor from someone outside your premade in the previous game;
- one extra vote when you are already Honor 5.
Those are votes you can give, not points automatically added to your own Honor. That distinction kills a lot of bad advice.
Do honors from premades count?
Yes, a premade Honor can boost the recipient's Honor under Riot's current guide. But receiving one from a premade does not grant the extra vote-bank refill reserved for an Honor from outside your party.
So your duo's commendation is not worthless. It just does not carry every same-system benefit as a vote from a stranger.

Can you grind Honor by spamming games?
Not on a published schedule. Riot changed the system specifically so Honor would reflect recent behavior rather than raw game count.
There is no verified “X games to Honor 4” number. Anyone promising an exact timeline is guessing unless they are reading a penalty requirement directly from the affected account's client.
How to Regain Honor in LoL
Recovery starts with the restriction shown in your profile. Riot made Honor penalties game-based, so the client displays how many eligible matches you must complete to lift the active penalty.
Use this order:
- Read the reform card. Know whether the account has a chat, ranked, queue, or suspension-related restriction.
- Check your profile. Use the displayed game requirement, not an old checkpoint guide.
- Complete eligible games cleanly. No AFK behavior, griefing, abusive chat, or attempts to dodge the restriction on another linked account.
- Use low-risk communication. Objective timers, danger pings, “reset,” “play slow,” and “gg” are enough. You do not need to debate every mistake.
- Keep the improvement going after the counter ends. Lifting a penalty is not the same as instantly reaching a positive Honor tier.
Riot's suspension and ban FAQ{:target="_blank"} separates restrictions from suspensions and explains that correctly assigned penalties are not simply removed on request.
⚠️ Watch Out: Do not move to another account to dodge the problem. Riot's account enforcement FAQ{:target="_blank"} says chat restrictions, queue delays, suspensions, and bans can be shared across accounts Riot confidently links to the same player.

What if your Honor dropped without a punishment?
Honor 4 and 5 reflect recent positive behavior, so they can move toward Honor 3 without an active restriction. Check for a client notification first. If your profile and notifications do not explain the change, Riot Support is the only source that can inspect your account.
Do not diagnose a normal dynamic demotion as a hidden chat ban. The client shows active penalties separately.
League Honor Rewards in 2026
The old reward loop is gone. Honor Orbs, Honor Capsules, seasonal checkpoint rewards, and the Honor Token shop belong to the retired system.
Current rewards scale with standing:
- Honor 3: occasional small Battle Pass XP drops and normal seasonal-reward eligibility.
- Honor 4: more frequent Honor BXP drops plus a loading-screen emblem.
- Honor 5: the most frequent Honor BXP drops, visible Honor flair, Honor Recall, team-visible ally-targeted pings, and the Honor skin collection.
Patch 25.04 permanently grants the named Honor skins the first time an account reaches Honor 5: Three Honors Malzahar, Three Honors Shen, Three Honors Akshan, Grey Warwick, Medieval Twitch, and their chromas. You do not spend a token to claim them.
Honor 1 and 2 list no Honor or seasonal rewards. Honor 3 and above preserve normal eligibility, but you still must meet the current season's separate ranked requirements.
This is different from Champion Mastery. Mastery measures your history with a champion; Honor measures recent behavior. Our League Champion Mastery guide covers levels, Marks, grades, and the current progression system.
Positive Comms That Help Without Forcing Chat
You do not need to become the lobby therapist. Good League communication is short, timely, and useful.
Use calls your team can act on:
| Situation | Useful call |
|---|---|
| Lane is unstable | “Play slow, jungle bot side.” |
| Objective setup | “Push mid, reset, then dragon.” |
| Fight is lost | “Give it, save ults.” |
| Teammate makes a play | “Nice setup” or “wp.” |
| Game starts tilting | “Mute and play next objective.” |

The trick is consistency. Ping the plan once, type it once if needed, then play. Repeating the call six times turns information into noise.
I believe the best Honor habit is also the best climbing habit: make the next play easier for the other four people. Track a summoner spell, warn about a roam, cover a reset, or say “my bad” and move on.
If the same tilt pattern keeps wrecking your games, a League coach on Tapin can review the decision that started the spiral—not just the report or restriction that came afterward.
Before queuing with a friend, also check the current League duo rank restrictions so the lobby does not die at the invite screen.
LoL Honor System FAQ
Does League Honor reset every season?
No. Riot removed seasonal Honor resets and checkpoints in Patch 25.04. Your level now updates dynamically from recent behavior.
How many games does it take to reach Honor 5?
Riot does not publish a fixed number. Honor 4 and 5 depend on recent positive behavior, communication, coordination, and commendation—not just completed games.
How many games does it take to recover from Honor 1 or 2?
Check your League profile. Active Honor penalties are game-based, and the client shows the required number for that account. There is no universal recovery count.
Do premade honors count in League?
Yes. Riot's current guide says honoring someone in your premade grants them an Honor boost. However, only receiving Honor from outside your premade grants the separate extra vote-bank refill for the next game.
Can Honor 5 drop to Honor 4?
Yes. Honor 4 and 5 reflect recent positive play rather than permanent checkpoints. Riot says you receive a warning when your Honor is sliding toward the previous level.
Does TFT increase League Honor?
No. TFT shares the PC client and Riot Account, but it does not grant League Honor progress. Penalties in either title can still affect the account's behavioral standing.
Keep Honor Simple
Honor 3 is neutral, Honor 4 and 5 recognize positive play, and Honor 1 and 2 mean an active penalty. There is no checkpoint math left to solve.
Give useful calls, honor the people who improved the game, and stop a bad interaction before it becomes the next game's problem. That is the current LoL Honor system—and it is a better plan than grinding in silence while waiting for a mystery bar to move.
