The Apex Legends ranked system is simple at the top level: pay an entry cost, earn Ranked Points through placement and eliminations, then keep the difference. The hard part is that every fight changes both halves of that equation.

This guide covers the live rules for Season 30: Marked, Split 2—rank order, RP scoring, entry fees, split resets, premade restrictions, and the weekly Ranked Ladder. It uses EA’s current Ranked guide and the official Marked patch notes, checked September 27, 2026.

Quick answer: Apex ranks run from Rookie to Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Apex Predator. Placement, eliminations, participation, challenger bonuses, and top-five streaks add RP; your tier’s entry cost comes off the total.

How the Apex Legends Ranked System Works

Ranked is a 20-squad Battle Royale where your visible progress is measured in Ranked Points (RP). EA says matchmaking is based on your current RP, while a hidden skill value helps decide your starting tier at the beginning of a season.

New players under account level 20 must complete all three sets of Road to Ranked challenges before entering Ranked. Players who already had access before Road to Ranked launched keep it.

Your match has four steps:

  1. Pay the entry cost for your current tier.
  2. Earn placement RP by surviving into the top half and beyond.
  3. Add elimination and bonus RP through kills, assists, participation, stronger opponents, and placement streaks.
  4. Take the net result after the entry fee.

That last line matters. A five-kill game can still disappoint if the squad dies early, because EA’s current scoring rules make eliminations worth more as final placement improves.

Apex Ranks in Order

The Apex ranks in order are:

  1. Rookie
  2. Bronze
  3. Silver
  4. Gold
  5. Platinum
  6. Diamond
  7. Master
  8. Apex Predator

Rookie through Diamond each use four divisions, from IV at the bottom to I at the top. Master has no numbered divisions. Apex Predator is not another fixed RP band—it is the title held by the top 750 Master players on each platform.

Ranked progress is separate by platform. Your PC rank can differ from your PlayStation or Xbox rank even when Cross Progression carries supported account content.

Rookie is also different from every later tier. EA describes it as an introductory rank, and once you progress out of Rookie, you cannot be placed back into it.

How Apex Ranked Points Are Calculated

Apex ranked points come from placement, eliminations, and bonuses. They work together; treating them as three separate mini-games is how squads throw good positions.

Placement RP

Placement is your squad’s finishing position out of 20 teams. EA says you earn placement RP in the top half, with larger rewards for surviving deeper.

That does not mean hiding all game. It means taking fights that leave a playable route into the next ring instead of spending every resource on a coin flip at 16th.

Elimination RP

A kill or assist counts as one elimination. If your squad eliminates someone without you dealing damage, you receive participation credit worth half an elimination.

Final placement determines what those eliminations are worth. After more than eight kills, EA halves the value of each additional kill, assist, and participation credit.

Challenger and streak bonuses

Eliminating higher-ranked opponents adds a challenger bonus to that elimination’s final value:

  • One tier higher: +15%
  • Two tiers higher: +25%
  • Three tiers higher: +35%
  • Four or more tiers higher: +50%

Top-five streaks add consistency bonuses too. The second consecutive top-five finish adds 10 RP, the third 20, the fourth 30, and the fifth 40. Further top-five finishes keep paying 40 RP until the streak breaks.

⚡ Squad rule: decide who can call a disengage before queueing. One clear “out” call protects placement, banners, meds, and the chance to cash in early eliminations later.

Apex Ranked Entry Costs

The current Apex ranked entry costs are:

Rank Entry cost
Rookie 0 RP
Bronze 10 RP
Silver 20 RP
Gold 38 RP
Platinum 48 RP
Diamond 65 RP
Master / Predator 90 RP

The fee changes how you should judge a session. A Gold squad and a Master squad can make the same decent decision, but the higher-ranked team needs a stronger finish to cover its starting deficit.

I believe the cleanest review question is not “Did we gain RP?” Ask: Did our fight plan create enough upside for the entry cost we risked? A good call can lose to better shooting. A bad push can accidentally work. Review the decision before worshipping the result.

Apex Ranked Split Resets and Rewards

Apex has two ranked splits per season: one at the season start and one around the midpoint. The reset compresses RP and gives the ladder a fresh climb.

For Season 30 Split 2, which began September 15, EA lists these reset points:

  • Bronze IV–I → Bronze IV, 1,000 RP
  • Silver IV–I → Silver IV, 3,250 RP
  • Gold IV–I → Gold IV, 5,750 RP
  • Platinum IV–I → Platinum IV, 8,750 RP
  • Diamond IV–III → Platinum III, 9,250 RP
  • Diamond II–I → Platinum II, 10,000 RP
  • Master and above → Platinum I, 11,000 RP

Season rewards use the highest tier you reached in either split. Match that tier in both splits and EA awards the animated version of the badge; otherwise, you receive the normal badge for your highest result.

Do not panic if early Split 2 lobbies feel compressed. Players who finished at very different points can restart closer together. Give the ladder time, then compare your decisions over 10–20 games instead of treating one rough night as your new ceiling.

Apex Ranked Premade Squad Restrictions

Under the current standard rule, everyone in a premade Ranked squad must be within two ranks of each other. The restriction applies to Duos and Trios.

EA’s example is clear: a Bronze player can party with Rookie, Bronze, Silver, or Gold players, but not Platinum or higher. Matchmaking then uses the highest RP value in the premade, so inviting a stronger friend changes the lobby your whole squad must handle.

Apex ranked premade squad restrictions with a Bronze party example

This rule gets misreported because Respawn has run temporary experiments. Season 29 tested both one-tier premade restrictions and Diamond-plus solo-queue-only matchmaking. The Season 30 Marked notes said Respawn was still evaluating those results; they did not declare both tests permanent.

Check the live EA guide and current patch notes before assuming an old Reddit screenshot is still law.

Build a squad that fits the queue

Rank range gets you through the party check. It does not make the trio work.

Before the first game, align on:

  • Region and schedule so the squad actually returns
  • Legend pool with at least one backup per player
  • Drop style: contested practice, edge route, or safer zone setup
  • Fight caller and the exact phrase that ends a bad push
  • Review rule: discuss the first broken decision, not the last person knocked

Season 30 Split 2 Maps and Ranked Ladders

The Marked midseason patch notes list World’s Edge, Olympus, and Broken Moon in the current Ranked map rotation.

Split 2 also runs six weekly Ranked Ladders. At publication, Ladder 1 runs September 22–27; Ladder 2 runs September 29–October 4. The remaining windows run October 6–11, October 13–18, October 20–25, and October 27–November 1.

Ranked Ladders are separate 100-player leaderboards grouped by hidden skill. Play at least five Ranked games with cross-play enabled, and your score uses your five best RP results. EA places the top 10% in Tier 1, the next 20% in Tier 2, the next 20% in Tier 3, and the bottom half in Tier 4.

That format rewards peak games, not just total grind. Plan one focused block with the same squad, map goals, and comms protocol, then stop when the calls get sloppy.

For a deeper practice structure, the Apex coaching guide shows how to turn one repeated leak into a seven-day test without changing five things at once.

Apex Legends Ranked System FAQ

What are the Apex ranks in order?

Rookie, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Apex Predator. Rookie through Diamond have divisions IV through I; Master and Predator do not.

How do you earn RP in Apex Ranked?

You earn RP from placement, kills, assists, participation, challenger bonuses, and consecutive top-five finishes. Your tier’s entry fee is then deducted to produce the match’s net RP result.

How much does an Apex Ranked match cost?

Entry costs currently range from 0 RP in Rookie to 90 RP in Master and Predator. Bronze costs 10, Silver 20, Gold 38, Platinum 48, and Diamond 65 RP.

Can Bronze play with Platinum in Apex Ranked?

No under the current standard premade rule. Ranked squadmates must be within two ranks, so EA’s Bronze example allows Rookie through Gold but excludes Platinum and above.

Does Apex rank reset every split?

Yes. Ranked resets at the season start and again at the midpoint. Rewards are based on the highest tier you reached across either split.

Play the System, Not the Panic

The Apex Legends ranked system rewards squads that survive long enough to make their eliminations matter. Know the entry fee, take fights with an exit, and review the first decision that broke—not only the death screen.

Then run it back with people who use the same plan. That consistency is where a badge starts becoming repeatable instead of lucky.
